FIESTA MEXICO INDEPENDENCE 2011

On the night of September 15th, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, ordered the church bells to ring and addressed the Mexican people. He encouraged them to fight for their independence in what is known today as "El Grito de Independencia".

The commemoration of "The Cry" has become an staple in ceremonies of the Independence of our nation. It is recreated annually by Mexican government officials throughout Mexico and in Mexican Diplomatic representations around the globe.

The celebration of Independence is our country's most important national holiday, including civic, cultural and military ceremonies. During the Fiesta of Mexico Independence 2011, there will be a reenactment of "El Grito de Independencia" by our Mexican representative the Consul General Angel Villalobos. There will also be a series of activities to celebrate including various characteristic Mexican food vendors, arts and crafts tables, a play area for children, as well as live folkloric and contemporary shows, including a special performance by world renowned pop singer Benny Ibarra.
